         The Honourable Otto Jelinek, Minister of National
Revenue, has asked me to reply to your letter of July 25, 1989,
which was forwarded to him by the Honourable Michael Wilson,
Minister of Finance.  I apologize for the delay in replying.
         The circumstances of your case, which involves a request
for a remission of tax arising on the inclusion in your 1988
income of a lump sum payment received for prior years Canada
Pension Plan disability benefits, are currently under review.
I will write to you again when the review has been completed and
I have had an opportunity to consider the results.
         Please be assured of my personal interest in this
matter.
