January 23, 1990

Dear Ms Szachanski:

Re: Canadian Management Development Program

We are enclosing herewith the report which we have prepared on
the above noted program. Included with the report is a copy of
the program and the comments from the participants, as well as
letters received subsequently from 19(1) .

In our recent conversation we discussed the budget for the 1989 program and I thought at the time that we would be returning some funds to you. Unfortunately that is not the case as we appear to need a further $325.99. We are still well under budget, but costs for 1989 increased and our initiative in taking the participants to Winnipeg added to the total. We have also forwarded materials related to the program to the participants.

As I indicated, we would like to continue the program. There is an interest in increasing the number on the program from the present 6, to 8 to 10. Nine may be the best choice. Our staff indicated that a greater number could easily be accommodated in the program. We believe that this could be done, although the numbers should not increase too much, because the benefit is intensified by the smallness of the group, allowing for a closer relationship within it and with the persons delivering the program.

If the program for 1990 were to be increased, a budget of $95,000 would be appropriate. We believe that we could still bring the program under budget.

Our goal would be to start the planning and organizing earlier
and thereby allow for greater opportunity for participation by
both CATA and CIAT members. We are also looking at other aspects
of management training in the program. We appreciate that any
submission is more properly made by 19(1) . However, an
indication from you of the availability of funding for 1990 would
allow us to begin planning.

Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. We look forward to hearing from you in due course.

Yours sincerely,

C. Savage A/Director Provincial and International Relations Division
