Dear Mr. 1c:
RE: REPORTING OF WORKERS' COMPENSATION BENEFITS
Our previous correspondence indicated that the reporting requirements for workers' compensation benefits would commence with the 1989 taxation year. It has become apparent that because of the legislative backlog the reporting requirement cannot be enacted to be effective for the 1989 taxation year as proposed. In view of the legislative delay it is expected that the Income Tax Act and Regulations will be amended effective for the 1990 taxation year.
With respect to the 1989 taxation year, your co-operation and best efforts to provide the information would be appreciated. The recipients, as you know, are required to report the benefits on their tax returns.
We apologize for any inconvenience that may result from this delay.
If we can be of any assistance, please contact the writer.
Yours sincerely,
C. Savage A/Director Provincial and International Relations Division
