SUBPARAGRAPH 55(3)(a)(ii) OF THE ACT

This is in reply to your memo of October 18, 1989, regarding the interpretation of the word "interest" in subparagraph 55(3)(a)(ii) of the Act.

The Department of Finance has advised us that from a policy viewpoint, the term "interest" should include an indirect interest and they see no reason that our department should vary its long-standing position on this issue.
