I am writing further to the letter dated January 9, 1989, form my predecessor, the honourable Elmer MacKay, concerning your request for a refund of 1984 taxes on behalf of yourself and your husband. I apologize for the length of the time taken to complete the thorough review that was necessary in this matter.
I am pleased to inform you that on September 21, 1989, an Order in Council was issued by Her Excellency, The Governor General in Council, authorizing the remission of 1984 income interest taxes in the amounts of 24(1) and 24(1) and all thereon, payable by 19(1) and 19(1) respectively. A copy of the Order in Council is enclosed for your information. Your accounts will be adjusted for those amounts.
On your behalf, I will ensure that the Manitoba Ministry of Revenue is provided with information necessary for their consideration of a remission of provincial income tax.
I wish to thank you for making your concerns known. I trust that this matter has been resolved to your satisfaction.
