I am writing further to the letter of January 17, 1989, from my predecessor, the Honourable Elmer MacKay, concerning your request for remission of tax. I apologize for the delay of my response.

Should you disagree with the reassessments, you may file a Notice of Objection, form T400A, within ninety days from the date the notices are mailed. You will be given the opportunity to present you views to ensure that all aspects of the situation are examined. You will also have the right of appeal to the Tax Court or Federal Court of Canada, should you wish a further review.

I would mention that remission under the Financial Administration Act is a measure of last resort. As you are now assured of an impartial and objective review of the circumstances, it would not be appropriate to recommend remission at this time.
I have referred your case to Mr. Paul Sequin, Director of the Vancouver District Office. Should you have any question, I invite you to contact Mr. Seguin at the Vancouver District Office, 1166 West Pender Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, V6E 3H8 or by telephoning 604-666-3501. He will be pleased to assist you.
I trust my reply will be of assistance to you.
Yours sincerely,
Otto Jelinek
