EXTENSION OF COVERAGE CANADA-U.S. SOCIAL SECURITY AGREEMENT
With respect to the request by 19(1) for an extension of coverage beyond sixty-months under the Social Security Agreement cannot be supported. The U.S. Social Security Administration has clearly stated that it will not approve an extension request beyond six months unless the reason is exceptional.
It is our recommendation that we renew the certificate that will bring the period of assignment to the full five years and advise the employee that a circumstance. The reason given in 19(1) letter of January 4, 1990, is not sufficient to warrant an extension.
