OECD Working Party No. 8 - New Technologies

Attached is a complete set of the material that we have received on the topic of New Technologies and Tax Compliance.  This material formed the basis of discussion at a special session of the Working Party held on October 17, 1989.  The session was held primarily to organize a future work program.  Your Directorate provided an outline of Canada's upcoming presentation on the topic of computerized audit selection techniques which will be the main subject of the next meeting on March 27, 1990.  The Secretariat has requested that our notes for our spring presentation be sent to them by the end of the year.

The regular session of Working Party No. 8 will be held on March 28 and 29, which I plan to attend, however, due to the highly technical nature of the special session on new technologies, a representative of the EDP Audit Applications Division should attend the March 27 meeting to present Canada's paper and to participate in discussions on related topics.  Another special session is scheduled for October 16, 1990 which will require continued involvement by your Directorate.

In addition to the topic of computerized audit selection techniques, you will note that the future work program on technology has identified several other areas which are of interest and/or concern to Canada.  You may want to consider preparing notes on some of them. If areas have not been identified, the Secretariat has requested that we submit suggestions for additional topics by the end of the year.

Your cooperation has been appreciated.  If you have any questions on the above please do not hesitate to contact me.
