XXXXXXXXXX

Dear XXXXXXXXXX:

The Honourable Martin Cauchon, Minister of National Revenue, has asked me to respond to your correspondence of September 24, 2001, concerning the financial assistance available to owners of leaky condominiums in British Columbia.

The Canada Customs and Revenue Agency is responsible for administering the Income Tax Act and strives to carry out this goal in a fair and uniform manner for all taxpayers.

The Act does not provide for any type of financial assistance for the situation you describe. However, as your request concerns assistance from the federal government for the enormous bills in respect of the condominium building you own, I have sent a copy of your letter to the Honourable Alfonso Gagliano, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, who is responsible for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, for his consideration.

I appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.

							Yours sincerely,
							Bill McCloskey
							Assistant Commissioner
							Policy and Legislation Branch

C.C. The Honourable Alfonso Gagliano, P.C., M.P.
