Principal Issues: Taxpayer looking for literature to hand out to potential clients on the Home Renovation Tax Credit

Position: Yes

Reasons: Department of Finance produced a pamphlet

XXXXXXXXXX

Dear XXXXXXXXXX :

The office of the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, forwarded to me a copy of your email, which I received on February 16, 2009, asking for literature on the new home renovation tax credit (HRTC).

The proposed HRTC will provide a temporary 15% income tax credit on eligible home renovation expenditures for work performed, or goods acquired, after January 27, 2009, and before February 1, 2010, pursuant to agreements entered into after January 27, 2009. The credit can be claimed for the 2009 tax year on eligible expenditures exceeding $1,000, but not more than $10,000, and will provide a tax credit up to $1,350.

The pamphlet on the HRTC is available on the Department of Finance Canada Web site at www.budget.gc.ca/2009/pamphlet-depliant/pamphlet-depliant3-eng.asp. You can order printed copies of the pamphlet to give to your clients by writing to the address or by calling the phone numbers in the pamphlet.

I trust that the information I have provided is helpful.

Sincerely,

Jean-Pierre Blackburn, P.C., M.P.
