FEDERAL TAX ROUNDTABLE
APFF CONFERENCE 2010
Question 32
Audit of Family Trusts
The CRA has indicated on a number of occasions since last fall that it intends more particularly to audit family trusts.
Question to the CRA
Could you give us more details about this program?
CRA Response
The mandate of the CRA's National Audit Committee is to enhance compliance with Canada's tax laws, including the trust provisions of the Act. Audits of personal trusts have been and continue to be conducted on a regular basis.
A national project was initiated in fiscal year 2005-2006 to develop an audit strategy for trusts resident in Canada. That project was completed in the 2007-2008 fiscal year; and following its completion, audit staff continue to focus on the audit of trusts resident in Canada.
